Pair of gueridons by Adam Weisweiler
Description:
Each of these mahogany veneered gueridon tables is supported by three pairs of faux-bamboo ormolu legs, joined by a triangular stretcher with incurved sides, supporting a circular tier with a scalloped rim. Both tables rest on three outward scrolling mahogany feet with ormolu sabots and have a vert de mer marble top.
The gueridon is a magnificent example of the fashionable Louis XVI style, led by famous arbiters of taste such as Madame Du Barry who gave the duc de Brissac a similar table, delivered in 1791 by the well-known Parisian dealers (marchands merciers) Lignereux and Daguerre.
