Epoque: Paris, circa 1800-1815.

Material: Mahogany veneer, chiselled ormolu, vert de mer marble top.

Dimensions: H. 28 ¾ in. (73 cm.); diam. 17 ½ in. (44.5 cm.).

Artist: Adam Weisweiler (1744-1820, master in 1778)

Description:

Each of these mahogany veneered gueridon tables is supported by three pairs of faux-bamboo ormolu legs, joined by a triangular stretcher with incurved sides, supporting a circular tier with a scalloped rim. Both tables rest on three outward scrolling mahogany feet with ormolu sabots and have a vert de mer marble top.

The gueridon is a magnificent example of the fashionable Louis XVI style, led by famous arbiters of taste such as Madame Du Barry who gave the duc de Brissac a similar table, delivered in 1791 by the well-known Parisian dealers (marchands merciers) Lignereux and Daguerre.
