Pair of writing tables by Jean-Henri Riesener
These remarkably executed rectangular tables, open with a drawer on the belt adorned with an ebony molding. They rest on a four-faceted ebony-threaded feet, adorned with rings and clogs on wheels. The top is plated with a beautiful speckled mahogany, surrounded by a smooth ingot mold in gilded bronze.
These two externally identical tables are distinguished by their use. The first opens with a writing drawer with an inkstand, a silver powder copper, and a tablet trimmed with green leather. The second opens by an empty drawer pocket. This pair of tables is very close by its general aesthetics of another pair preserved in the Château de Fontainebleau in the « playroom of Marie Antoinette » delivered by Riesener.
