Artist: Jean-François Hue (1751-1823)

Epoque: French school, 18th century

Material: Oil on canvas

Dimensions: H. 88 5/8 in. (225 cm) ; L. 61 ¾ in. (157 cm)

Description:

Our large painting represents an imaginary view, inspired by the Tivoli waterfalls.
Hue often uses anecdote in his paintings, by the presence of characters or by original details related to the surrounding nature. His experience in Vernet’s workshop, his reputation as a marine painter, make him particularly at ease with the representation of nature transformed by the wind. This aspect is visible in our painting on many occasions, which allows to give a realistic movement and atmosphere to this composition.
