Mirror with two doves
Description:
This carved and gilt wooden mirror from the Louis XVI period has an internal frieze made of a ribbon and a second frieze with leaves. The mirror is adorned with a pediment, decorated with oak leaves, a quiver with arrows, a burning torch, two doves and a small cloud. All these together are the symbols of Eros and Venus, and the mirror’s decoration may thus be considered as the allegory of Love.
