Description:

This thuja burr veneered gueridon features a blue-ground biscuit porcelain plaque, probably Wedgwood, depicting a Sacrifice to Love. The plaque was certainly made after a model by the famous French sculptor Clodion. The table is supported by six paired faux-bamboo ormolu legs, conjoined by a triangular stretcher with incurved sides, supporting a circular tier with a scalloped rim. It rests on three outward scrolling mahogany feet with ormolu sabots.

The gueridon is a magnificent example of the fashionable Louis XVI style, led by famous arbiters of taste such as Madame Du Barry who gave the duc de Brissac a similar table, delivered by the well-known Parisian dealers (marchands merciers) Lignereux and Daguerre in 1791.
